A while back I jumped on the “adult coloring” bandwagon. It’s gotten more and more popular, and every time I visit a craft or big box store I come across shelves of different coloring books tailored for adults.

Personally, I’m drawn to it because I grew up coloring and yay! Childhood! Also, I go through periods of bad anxiety and depression, and I’ve found that this helps, as it gives my brain something positive to focus on.

I have a very small collection of books, and have been keeping an eye out for some good horse-themed ones. I was so excited to see a few hobbyists releasing their own books, one of them being Rayvin Brewer of Khrysalis Studios.

I purchased both Enchanting Equines and Horses of Myth and Legend directly from Rayvin, and am very pleased with both. All of the drawings are very well done and are printed on one side of the paper.

Enchanting Equines has a nice mix of realistic line drawings…

… and more abstract ones.

There are a few tacked up horses and fantasy horses as well, like this handsome unicorn:

Horses of Myth and Legend is full of all kinds of fantasy inspired horses. I do think this book is my favorite of the two, probably because I’m a big fantasy nerd. ^_^

Like the first book, this one also has a mix of realistic and abstract drawings.

A few of them have solid black backgrounds, like this Steampunk inspired horse, which will look great once it’s all colored in.

I have so many favorite drawings in this book. ❤ I’m looking forward to adding color to all of them!

Both books can be purchased directly from Rayvin at or through Amazon. While it’s probably too late for Christmas delivery, she does have them available in a PDF format, so you could print them up at home. (a great option if you want to save on shipping!)
More of her work can be seen on her Facebook pages, Khrysalis Studios and Coloring Books by Rayvin.

Here’s one of her Wednesday freebies (from Facebook) I’m working on at the moment… I got myself one of those colorless blender pencils and love it so far!

Recently I finished another horse blanket:

This, in addition to a couple pairs of glitter boots…

Is my donation to the Jennifer Show being held in CO this fall. I do hope that whoever ends up with them likes them! 😀

Aside from one other project I wrapped up last week, I’ve put the model stuff aside for the time being. One, I need a break. And two, I will be travelling again soon, so I’ve been pre-occupied with that.

I have managed to finish some last minute sewing projects in preparation though, the first being a camera strap:

And a pouch to hold colored pencils:

Yes, I have a thing for space/galaxy prints, why do you ask!?

While it wasn’t a terribly difficult project I’m still pleased with it. Zippers are intimidating.

I should probably stop procrastinating and get some other things done now. 😛 Also, I am going to have limited internet access for the next couple weeks, so if I’m slow to respond to any messages, that’s why! 🙂

Liebster Award

Liebster Award Pic

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award a couple times. I like answering these things and since I haven’t got much else to post about this week… why not?
Also, I’m combining the questions since I was nominated by both Horse Tender Studio and Stable Storeys. 🙂 A couple questions were duplicates so those I’ve omitted.

Here are the rules:

– Put the Liebster Award logo on your blog.
– Thank and tag the blog that nominated you.
– Answer the questions and come up with 10 new ones for your nominees.
– Nominate 8 blogs (with less than 200 followers), let them know you’ve nominated them, and link them in your post.
No tag backs!

Stable Storeys’ Questions

Where is your favorite place to be?

I can’t decide. I love Montana:

And this little state park in California called Gaviota:

And, though it may sound silly, Disneyland. I have tons of memories here. TONS.

How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging since 2008-ish… so about 8 years? I’ve had multiple blogs but Desktop Stables is the only active one.

What would your dream home be like?
Probably a small cottage of some sort… with a mix of bohemian/shabby chic/rustic décor. Oh, and a hobby/craft room with good lighting and lots of shelves.

How many blog posts have you made? Over 300 on this blog. 🙂

Who is your favorite Harry Potter character?

This is tough. Probably Hermione.

Have you ever fallen of a chair? (don’t ask)
Yes. I was at a jr high youth group and was leaning in a plastic chair. It tipped over backwards… it was pretty embarrassing.

What brand of model horses do you have the most of if any?
Breyers! They are everywhere O_O

What is your favorite horse colour?
I’m going to be one of those people who says, “I like ALL of them!” I’m partial to anything pinto though, and I like dilutes and greys. And dapples. And spots. And roans. And and and…

Horse Tender Questions

What is your favorite color?
Purple and green. I really like earth tones as well.

Who is your favorite fictional character?
This is also really tough, because there are so many. Some that immediately come to mind are Jane from Jane Eyre, Jo and Beth March from Little Women, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Do you play any online/computer games? If so, which ones?
I used to, but my computer hates them. I still love my old computer games… the original Zoo Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and the first 2 Sims games.
I got super addicted to Bejeweled not too long ago. Last time I played I overheated my laptop. 😛

Best (real) horse memory?

Riding in the 4th of July parade when I was taking riding lessons in CA. I’m the second from the left, looking like a big dork:

Favorite time of year?
Autumn. I like the leaves, the cooler temperatures, sweaters and boots and hot mugs of tea/coffee/cider. And uh, pumpkin flavored everything. (I have never had a pumpkin spice latte however)

Are you a night owl or an early bird?
I used to be a night owl. I’d stay up ridiculously late. Now I go to bed early since I get up every day at 5 for work.

Do you have any pets?
I don’t have my “own” pet anymore, sadly. Someday I hope, but not anytime soon.

Favorite breed of horse?
Arabians! When I was little I was asked what I would wish for if I had three wishes. (for a school star-of-the-week project) One of those wishes was a little white horse. I haven’t been able to forget that, but instead of the little white horse, it’s turned into the grey Arab. I’m a sucker for grey Arabians.

Are you working on any big projects right now?
I’m working on a zillion projects right now. I’ve got a pleasure saddle in the works, another arabian costume in the works, a few custom dolls in the works, and plenty of ideas for other things but not enough time to get them all done!

What other hobbies or interests to you have?
I’ve been playing the piano for a few years now. I’m not really good but I’m getting better… slowly. 😉

I’m a wanna-be photographer:

And I love to travel:

I’ve been really fortunate to be able to visit many places both inside and outside the USA. Several years back I spent nearly three months in Southeast Asia (mostly in Indonesia, but Malaysia and Thailand as well) doing missions work, and have also spent some time in Albania, a country I didn’t even know existed until presented with the opportunity to go there.

Africa may or may not be in my near future… only time will tell for that one, we’ll see. I’d also love to visit Japan and Australia, and I’d LOVE to tour Europe.

In the US, I want to visit more National Parks (been to many but there are still plenty of others!) visit New York City, and get myself out to Breyerfest and Universal Studios Florida. (Harry Potter world, why else? Ha!)

Thanks for the nominations! 😀 Here are my questions- I’ve kept them model horse related. 🙂

1: What first got you into model horses?
2: Plastic, resin, both or other?
3: Who is your favorite horse in your collection?
4: Who is your favorite model horse sculptor?
5: Finishwork artist?
6: How long have you been collecting?
7: What would your dream horse be? (real or model!)
8: Do you have a sentimental favorite model?
9: What do you like most about the model horse hobby?
10: What is your best memory involving model horses?

As far as nominating goes…

Zafirica Studios
Many Mini Hooves
Meadowview Artistry
Life in the Desert
Ivory Tower Stables
Five Paws Studio
PawPrints Saddlery

… and whoever else wants to join in. 🙂
