Lately I’ve been on this weird Breyer-Buying kick, which is both fun (because new ponies!!) and bad, because space. Last year one of my resolutions was to limit the amount of horses that come in. Now I’m just laughing at myself.
Maybe this coming January I’ll make a resolution to BUY ALL THE PONEHS instead.

One newbie that I am really excited about is Black Beauty on the Silver mold.

Black Beauty was one of my favorite horse stories when I was younger. I had a simplified illustrated edition that came with a gold horse necklace. I have kept both of them over the years.

I wore the necklace ALL the time. The horse charm got so worn down that it broke and disappeared while on a family trip. Luckily I found it lying in a parking lot, after I figured that it was gone forever. I later fixed the charm’s loop, but I haven’t worn it since because I don’t want to lose it again. 😛

Over the years Breyer has produced several Black Beauty models. (here’s a nice overview of many of them) This particular one was a QVC special run, and included a copy of the movie on VHS.

After all these years I’ve yet to see the movie, but I want to even though it will probably make me cry.

This was one of those horses I figured I would never own, so I’m really happy to have him join the herd.

Fantasia Del C and Gozosa were added to the herd a few months ago… they were my favorites of the 2017 releases (RR horses, anyway…) so I’m glad I got to add them to my overcrowded bookshelf.

In hindsight, I probably should have photographed Fantasia on a black background.

She is a bright white in person – here she is compared to Susecion:

Yay! A lot of collectors were worried she would be shaded bare plastic like some previous releases, so I’m happy to see that this isn’t the case.

One thing that does disappoint me is her forelock:

Ugh! I was so hoping that she would be tack friendly but that extra bit of sculpted hair is going to be a huge pain to work around. :/ It’s still a nice mold though… and I still love the fact that I can own plastic Eberl horses. 😀

The foal is my favorite of the two I think…

His eyes are painted a bit better than the mare’s so I’m thinking I might touch her’s up some.

Overall they’re a nice pair, and I really do love mare & foal sets. ❤

Over the years I’ve managed to collect quite a few Breyer blankets:

I’ve modified many of them, mostly by taking off tags and removing velcro closures so I can replace them with ribbon straps. I feel kind of guilty doing that… but anyway.

My favorites are the Rambo and Weatherbeeta blankets.

When I learned about the existence of a green Weatherbeeta I knew I had to track it down. It’s been, um, years since I decided that, and I was never ever in the right place at the right time. But last week was THE week! FINALLY.

It’s the Weatherbeeta! It’s green! It… has a lot of problems!

But I got it for 4 bucks, and I knew I could fix it so yay. ^_^

Whoever previously owned it chopped off the belly and tail straps, my guess would be for the hardware. It was also missing it’s logo and it’s satin-ish lining is snagged in a few places.

I like fixing things (I do it for a living, haha) so I’ve had fun with it this week. The first thing to go was the leftover straps. Luckily they were sewn through both layers of material, so I could easily take out the stitches with a seam ripper.

I don’t have any spare hardware from another Breyer blanket, so I used etched hardware instead. Rio Rondo (on the right) was a closer match than the hardware from Solstice Sky Studio, but it is a bit smaller.

I also noticed that there are lines drawn on the blanket, I’m assuming to help with assembly at the factory. It made positioning the new straps a lot easier anyway!

Shiny new straps sewn in place:

The last step was to make a copy of the logo and print it out in the right size. I covered it with a piece of packing tape to give it a glossy look. It’s not perfect, but it’ll do.

Finished!

I am so happy. I suppose it’s silly to get so giddy over a blanket, but I’m glad to have it anyway. 🙂

Supposedly there is a third variation (blue and grey?) out there somewhere, but I’m happy with these two for now.

Also, Breyer, if you’re listening, this blanket would look great in purple or red! 😉
